Team USA takes home 39 gold medals in Tokyo
Host nation Japan won 27 gold medals at the 2021 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, surpassing its previous record of 16 gold medals won at both the 1964 and 2004 Summer Games.
The United States led the medal count with 39 gold medals, followed by China with 38 gold medals. Japan finished third in the medal count, followed by Great Britain with 22 gold medals and the Russian Olympic Committee with 20 gold medals.
