A Look at the Eddie Gottlieb Trophy Winners
Charlotte Hornets guard LaMelo Ball is the latest player to win the Eddie Gottlieb Trophy, the award given to the NBA's Rookie of the Year. Ball averaged 15.7 points, 6.1 rebounds, and 6.7 assists per game this season, helping the Hornets to a 43-39 record and a berth in the play-in tournament.
Ball is the second Hornets player to win the award, joining Emeka Okafor, who won in 2005. He is also the first player from his draft class to win the award, which is voted on by a panel of sportswriters and broadcasters.
Other recent winners of the award include Scottie Barnes of the Toronto Raptors (2021-22), Ja Morant of the Memphis Grizzlies (2019-20), and Luka Dončić of the Dallas Mavericks (2018-19).
