Jets Outlast Avalanche in High-Scoring Affair

Winnipeg Takes Early Lead in Western Conference Semifinals

The Colorado Avalanche fell to the Winnipeg Jets 7-5 in Game 1 of the Western Conference semifinals on Wednesday night. The Jets scored the first three goals of the game and held off a late Avalanche rally to take an early lead in the series.

The Jets were led by Mark Scheifele, who had a hat trick and an assist. Kyle Connor added two goals and an assist, and Nikolaj Ehlers and Pierre-Luc Dubois each scored once. Nathan MacKinnon and Mikko Rantanen each had a goal and an assist for the Avalanche, while Valeri Nichushkin and Evan Rodrigues also scored.

The Avalanche outshot the Jets 37-35, but Jets goalie Connor Hellebuyck made several key saves to keep the Avalanche from tying the game in the third period. The Avalanche will now look to even the series when they host the Jets in Game 2 on Saturday night.
